Coffee recipes · Practical home barista guide
This coffee shake keeps the spirit of the original recipe: cold milk, vanilla protein powder and an espresso shot. It is a quick blended drink, not a replacement for a balanced meal.
What matters: Cool the espresso briefly before blending to avoid watering down the shake with excessive melted ice.

What you need
- 200 ml cold milk (or milk alternative)
- 1 double espresso
- 20 g vanilla protein powder, optional; follow the product label if using
- A handful of ice cubes, optional
- Blender
Make it at home
- Brew a double espresso and let it cool until it is not steaming hot.
- Add the milk, coffee, optional protein powder and ice to your blender.
- Blend until smooth, roughly 15–30 seconds depending on your machine.
- Taste before adding sweetener. Vanilla protein powders vary widely in sweetness.
Do you need protein powder?
No. Skip it for a simple coffee milkshake and add a small scoop of vanilla ice cream instead if you want dessert. Adjust milk volume for texture.
