How to Adjust Your Coffee Grind for Better Flavor?(Without Losing Your Mind)
I believe that when a beginner learns to make coffee, they will definitely be curious about the changes in coffee flavor caused by different grinding degrees of the same coffee. Because I officially do too. For this, I would like to share with you my recent research and testing experience.

Here are the key points I summarized after trying it:
  1. Coffee Tastes Too Sour or Weak?(Under-extracted, and not in a good way)
  • Fix It:Grind finer.
  • Why:If your coffee’s making faces at you with its sourness or it’s as weak as a decaf joke, it’s under-extracted. The water didn’t hang out with the grounds long enough to get all the flavors out. Finer grind = more surface area = better extraction. Think of it like getting the most out of a squeezed lemon—more pressure equals more juice (but in a good way).
  1. Coffee Tastes Too Bitter or Like Burnt Stuff?(Over-extracted, and nobody’s happy)
  • Fix It:Grind coarser.
  • Why:Over-extraction is like watching a movie that’s 30 minutes too long—unnecessary bitterness. A coarser grind means water moves through the coffee faster, picking up just the right flavors without overdoing it. Your taste buds will be much happier.
  1. Coffee Is Just... Boring?(The flavor’s a snooze fest)
  • Fix It:Grind a bit finer.
  • Why:If your coffee’s about as exciting as watching paint dry, it needs more flavor. A finer grind can help you bring out those hidden taste notes. Just don’t go too far, or you’ll cross into bitter-ville.
  1. Coffee Is So Strong It Could Wake the Dead?
  • Fix It:Grind a bit coarser.
  • Why:When your coffee feels like a jolt of electricity, it’s time to take a step back. A coarser grind will mellow things out and give you a smoother, more balanced cup that won’t have you bouncing off the walls.
  1. Remember the Other Factors:
  • Brew Time:Still not quite there? Try adjusting the brew time. Sometimes a few extra seconds (or less) can make all the difference.
  • Water Temperature:Hotter water extracts faster. If your finely ground coffee is tasting like rocket fuel, drop the temp a notch.
  1. Adjust, Sip, Repeat:
  • Make small changes and taste along the way. Finding the perfect grind is a bit like finding the perfect meme—it’s all about trial and error (but with way better rewards).

Hope these can give your some help and all coffee lovers can explore their favorite coffee flavors.
