For decades, the standard home-grinder workflow has looked simple: fill the hopper, choose a grind setting, and grind whenever you want coffee. That workflow is fast, familiar, and still makes sense for busy cafés or households that use the same beans quickly.

But convenience can hide two variables that matter to flavor: where the beans wait before grinding and what remains inside the grinder afterward.
